Guy Fawkes Day

"Remember, remember,
the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
We see no reason why
Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!"

Words to Guy Fawkes rhyme

Well, it's sort of an odd day to celebrate I think. But I'm an American and think differently I suppose.

So meanwhile while America was celebrating other things yesterday.....

In the United Kingdom.....they were celebrating "Guy Fawkes Day," or "Bonfire night."Which in a nutshell is basically where they are burning effigies and having bonfires and letting off firecrackers all because a group of men with Guy Fawkes as the leader......were going to "overthrow the Government, kill the Monarchy and blow up Parliament."

Yikes.
No small matter and very treasonous. Which is where the trouble comes in.

I read a book one time that I loved called "Lord of the Nutcracker Men." Which was about a boy growing up during World War 1 and his Father was off at war.

In the story line somewhere..they were celebrating "Guy Fawkes Day" which I hadn't a clue what it was about so I set out to research it a bit.

I spoke to our son Gabe,
who had lived in England before for several months a few years ago....and asked him if he had gone to a "Guy Fawkes" even while he was there and he had indeed..........much to my joy.
HA!

So he proceeded to tell me what they did....hang "dummies" made to look like men which were basically stuffed clothes and light them over bonfires and such. Great fun for all on a November day.....November the 5th to be exact.

Sounds like South Louisiana if you ask me.....people are always looking for a "reason" to celebrate something.

Gabe told me it was sort of like the "V for Vendetta" movie....so I went and rented it.
And it was nothing like the real event Ha!
KIDS!!!.....
The movie was VERY "futuristic" and based on the Guy Fawkes thing. They still wanted to blow up Parliament and get rid of the Government which was corrupt. And in the end the "V" guy accomplished what Guy Fawkes and his men never did but were put to death for trying to do.

So with all that said......HA!
I wish all my friends in England a great "Be-lated" Guy Fawkes Day......

Oh and please leave "Her Majesty and Parliament alone okay??"If you get my point....I like her and I like the Parliament building.
It's so BEAUTIFUL.
And the Queen has the BEST HATS you will ever see......you don't want to tamper with that you know.

Our Presidents wives don't wear hats and we are greatly missing out on such a great thing over here in America in that manner AND we don't have "Royal Families.

Plus I love that Tony Blair....where is he?
I haven't hear a word about him lately.

I wish he would have ran for President here in America.

I think he could have won had he not been British...not that it is a bad thing it's just that we have laws stating that one must be born here to run for President and all.
So I don't think he could have qualified it under those grounds alone.

I'm sure England misses him....he wasn't all that bad of a Prime Minister after all now was he?
