Doyle + Doyle= Tragic Engagement

So as you all know, the diamond in the middle of my engagement ring fell out gain about three weeks ago. Its happened before and Doyle + Doyle has always repaired it. After getting an estimate at Judith Arnell for $825 for a repair (IN PORTLAND) I took the ring to Malloy's who specializes in antique jewelry. Karen Malloy is a straight shooter. Apparently my ring is more than 100 years old, not from the 20th century (try very end of the 19th) and made of almost pure silver with some rose gold. Apparently its not a ring that can be worn every day and due to the fact that its nearly pure silver diamonds won't stay in a silver setting.

One would think after having the ring repaired by Doyle + Doyle's jeweler 3x's (that was just to replace the diamond) and once last year for some other repair, they would have replaced the bezel with Platinum and made sure the diamond was secure. It makes me wonder about how reputable they are, how well they actually know the jewelry that they are selling or how great their repair guy is.

My husband spent alot of money on that ring, a gorgeous ring that now I can maybe wear on special occasions.

I am really sad.
