Thanksgiving Dandy
What a wonderful and lazy Thanksgiving day! After hanging around the house spending time with the boys, I threw on my Dandy dress from holiday 2005 with some black tights and old Chloe (first Phoebe Philo footwear collection) flats (tiny heel), and we went over to Tracy & Jonas' for dinner. It was a fun night spent with friends and lots of kids (all Max's friends). I made homemade cranberry sauce, and a green bean casserole. Such a great dinner! Fun company. I can only hope all Thanksgivings are so great.
I am so excited for the coming holiday season!

Happy Thanksgiving!!
Day Before Thanksgiving
I woke up today feeling a bit better (though a bit more phlegm). I walked up to Sip & Kranz to read a book that I picked up at Powell's yesterday (an advanced readers copy of "The Overnight Socialite" which is really good so far). Went to Safeway to pick up some ingredients for my casserole (I also found a wallet on the floor and stood in line for 10 minutes to turn it into lost + found). Then I went to meet Amy to see "Untitled" though when I got to the theater they switched the time to 5PM and was showing "Dr Strangelove" instead. Amy and I decided to get sushi (it was late) and after I walked to Macy's to pick up a glass bowl for my Thanksgiving cranberries, then stopped in J Crew to see if they had any fun sweaters (none that I didn't already have) and then hopped into Anthropologie on my way home.
Yesterday I was bummed to see that the dress I bought with some anniversary money from Anthropologie was on-sale for half price and that a floral dress that I liked that had disappeared and suddenly popped up again on sale for $79. I went home and found my receipt, and spoke to the manager who was more than happy to give me a price adjustment and then I bought the floral dress for just $11.
Today I wore Beatrice in black with some great Hue tights (photos to follow) my lurex cardigan from H&M, black Odette and black patent Lola clogs.

Ignacia
Day 24: Ignacia
I had a terrible night last night. It was impossible to rest, and when I did sleep I found myself waking quickly and often. Around 1AM Max came into our room, wet (so sad) and I got up to change him and then he got into our bed and I couldn't fall back asleep.
When I woke up I had to rush to get to the doctor - I made the mistake of wearing my burgundy JCrew cashmere cardigan, between that, my Odette and my zebra striped scarf, I was beyond overheated. The doctor told me that I don't have an ear infection, but I can easily get one. My glands aren't draining, so I need to eat hot soup, hot drinks and take two hot showers a day. The doctor also said that it seems like I may have the flu and that the only flu I could have would be swine flu and it could be a mild case. At this point, I would just love to be diagnosed.
Today I wore Ignacia, though no one but my doctor (and Amy who stopped by around lunchtime) have had the opportunity to admire it. I wore it with my gray Hue tights, and the aforementioned burgundy JCrew Cardigan.
I am resting, so no movie (was going to see Untitled at the Living Room Theater). I wish I had my appetite back, but maybe this lack of appetite will help me lose a quick 5 pounds....

Mayle For Sale
My closet is in a constant state of being edited. I have decided to part with this dalmatia print top from Mayle's holiday resort 2006 collection. I love the top but I have two dresses in this exact print and color - and I just do not wear the top. Its in MINT condition - worn less than 5x (if that). Its a size 4 but cut generously - and is silk. Let me know if your interested.
These photos aren't the best as they were taken with my iphone, but the top is fuschia in color. A really great piece.
Thanks
Sorry it's been a bit. Life gets in the way. (ok, so SLEEP is getting in the way of life right now, same diff).
I am not even kidding. All I seem to do lately is sleep. And this coming from a non-napper! My weekday 8 hours is not enough for me anymore, and every weekend I am finding it easier and easier to sleep 10 or more hours without interruption.
Kinda nice actually.
But really, a total waste of time. Kinda wish I had more energy.
My schedule is basically this :
5:55 am - press snooze
6:03 am - turn off alarm and dive bomb in the shower with my eyes closed
6:15-18 am - Find clothes that still fit
6:20-25 am - make up
6:30 am - dry my hair and tie it back. I can't be bothered to straighten it. Mind you, I have now discovered some very flattering up-do's I can do in seconds that makes me look like I spent a long time doing my hair! Hallelujah! Only took 30 damn years
6:40 am - Cheerios
6:50 am - warm up the car and pick up my carpooler
7:20 am - start my day at work
8:30 am - look at the clock and wonder WTF is taking this day so long
8:35 am - cursing the clock and wanting to take a nap
8:40 am - heading to the kitchen for a snack
9:45 am - 2nd snack
9:50 am - swearing at the clock that its not even 10 am
10:30 am - 3rd snack
11:15 am - 4th snack
12:30 pm - Lunch, usually too much food that I have a stomach ache by 12:45pm
2:00 pm - 5th snack
3:00 pm - Mahjong, and clock watching... one more hour to go
3:59 pm - shutting down the computer
4:45 pm - getting home after dropping off carpooler
4:50 pm - Jammies on, book in lap, couch time
5:15 pm - Dinner, usually cooked by E
5:45 pm - Dishes. The only thing I feel inclined to do cause I can't STAND leaving them
6:00 pm - BED (lots of TV watching)
9:00 pm - OUT COLD
I AM SO BORING

Day 23: Avignon Original
I woke up this morning with an ear infection. It was a tough night and I feel so incredibly rundown. I met Amy, Herve, Krista and April to talk about the 2010 ball. Post meeting at Cafe Umbria I went to the post office to ship some packages to family and then went to acupuncture, which made me feel a bit better but I am desperate for an antibiotic. I called my doctor who refused to prescribe something over the phone, (and had no appointments today) so I have to wait until tomorrow sadly. After Acupuncture I took the #4 bus to N Williams to meet Zia for Coffee at Pix Patisserie to discuss the YP holiday party.
Today I wore my original Avignon dress with the leopard sequined belt, my blue lurex H&M cardigan, some berry colored tights and my 3-strap Jeffrey Campbell Mary Jane's.
I stopped into West Elm to take some photos of the outfit. I am sooo exhausted. So more tomorrow.

Mixing It Up
Lazy Sunday. Last night I snuggled on the couch and watched one of my favorite films, "The Royal Tenebaums" and drank wine. I slept late today and woke up to a sunny day. After all of the family drama I was happy to just have a peaceful night's sleep (and I slept for nearly 11 uninterrupted hours).
Today I was perplexed by what to wear, but decided it was time to break out an Anna Sui for Target dress that I got back in early October (or was it September?). This one was in the ad's - the lurex, metallic geometric print shift. It comes with a sash but I cut off the belt loops and wore it loose- no sash with black sweater leggings, a black JCrew cardigan and my black Mayle boots from 2004. I figured that if I didn't wear it now, it would languish in my closet - and I am feeling bloated and not so great about myself so it would bring some brightness to an otherwise dull wardrobe day. Its funny as when I was first thinking about getting this dress all I could think about was, is it going to be itchy and will it look cheap and in the end it was neither. I will definitely be bringing this along to Arizona this Christmas.
I also feel pretty great that I powered through several magazine's that have been stacking up on my bedside table. I finished last month's Allure, Vogue just in time to recieve the news ones plus the Dakota Fanning issue of Teen Vogue (I love the styling in that book), the new Us Weekly and People.
Teen Vogue had a great article on Tavi (the 13 year old blogger). There is something that is just so charming about Tavi and the way that she is so excited about fashion - and in not an annoying way like Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes. I don't know what it is, maybe jealousy of Jane? That this 16 year old girl is able to buy Chanel, Alaia, Dries shoes on a weekly basis. Not just $500 shoes either, but $1500 shoes, boots etc. AND she is 16. When I was 16 I was lucky to get a shopping spree at Express. Anyway, Jane Keltner at Teen Vogue styles Tavi in some of the Rodarte for Target pieces coming on December 20, and I got super excited. I will be begging Jon to drive me to Target for when it opens that day. I am dying for the lace dress and the leopard dress - AND they are only $39.95. I have a good feeling about this one as I think the Mulleavy sisters who design the line were most likely control freaks about the fabrics.
This and the red striped JM dress are a few things to look forward to this holiday season.

Chav?
I am always happy when its Saturday. It means that I get to spend some special time with the boys. Today we ran errands (invites for Max's upcoming 3rd birthday party), ran around town looking for the latest Beaujolais Nouveau (would have been a one stop shop at Astor Place Wines) and drove out to Woodburn (an outlet Mall with surprisingly great stuff). However when we got to Woodburn (a 20-30 minute drive) Max had a major meltdown. So after just 5 minutes of being there we got back into the car and drove home (hitting Voodoo Donuts on NE Sandy BLVD) on the way. I had an amazing buttermilk flavored donut. A surprising delight (though the last thing I should be eating).
I am also super excited that I have won back two of my items that I sold on eBay during 2007 - the black deconstructed dress from 2002 spring and also the pleated cami from holiday 2006 both for under $200. Another great win was the green medallion floral printed top from spring 2006 that was a staple while I was pregnant with Max - The normal price for it on eBay months ago was $250, but I managed to snag it for $102!
I am happy that someone is bidding on Kiyoko - I am not going to wear it and am happy that I will soon have 3 other items from my past life back in my life.
Also, if you are a Jeffrey Montiero fan, the barneys pre-sale started and his pieces are 40% off. I purchased the red slouch dress in a size 8. Very excited about this dress (and to start wearing it!)
Today's outfit? Channeling a chav possibly (at least with the leg wear)
Black Mayle sweater dress from fall 2008
Chanel logo tights ( a freebie from my friend Laurie years ago)
Black Mayle boots

Kilts and Bagpippers
See.....women wear Kilts too!
And play Bagpipes and drums....
This is a family group from the New Orleans area named
"Haggis Rampant" who performs at the Louisiana Renaissance Festival and other various events.
My Tea group enjoyed their music very much.Father and Daughter having a little "Pipes" contest. It's always awe inspiring to hear Bagpipers, especially when the play the traditional Scottish songs that you often hear and of course.....then there's "Amazing Grace."
When they played it....I had goosebumps and nearly cried it was such a powerful moment.
Interesting how music can affect a person.

eBay Delayed, Way-laid or Just Laid Up?
For the past few hours eBay has been having some issues with their search capabilities. As someone currently selling something on eBay, I find this really disappointing. Of course eBay will do nothing for sellers - lost traffic, possible lost sales... a company like this should really know better - and oh yeah, none of their "advanced search" techniques they suggested are working. Wonder when this will all be fixed..... not just for sellers but for everyone looking to buy something they love.
November Spawned A Monster
I couldn't sleep last night and when I did I had miserable dreams. When I was at the museum last night, I received a very nasty email from my estranged younger brother essentially telling me that I was a "piece of shit" for calling my father to tell him about our dead cousin. Heavy and just wrong- right?
Well the email sent to me via Facebook started off that way and then turned into a ramble about all these things that I had supposedly done to hurt my father (none of which I had done, with the exception of sending him a text message to say happy birthday - but I was already embarrassed that I forgot so I wasn't going to call and I hate talking on the phone). Then more ranting about some extremely exaggerated things that Jon and I had done to hurt them (both my father and brother) and that we think that we are too good for them blah blah blah.
I should probably prefaced the above with the fact that my brother has severe anger and jealousy issues (doesn't the favorite baby boy of every family always have severe anger issues?) and is most likely bi-polar, but undiagnosed (my mother and several other family members are bi-polar) and would probably be mortified by what he wrote if only he seeked treatment and medication. Which he would never do.
Needless to say the email hurt me a lot even though none of it was true and again, even though I have Jon's family (with another brother named Jamie, same age just a few days older and Sarah) I still feel like an orphan at times and it really makes me sad and I feel really hurt and alone. I have never really felt like a part of my family and this in a way was the final straw in breaking it off with my father's side.
This is a heavy rant - so sorry to go there its almost like I had to write something to work out if telling my father to never contact me again is irrational or not - as he is the one who is still immature at 71 and really starts these "fires."

Day 20, Black Micheala
Rainy Friday. I was excited today - I had a job interview at a company I have been dying to work for since my teens... a lunch meeting. It went ok. the chance of getting this job? 50/50. I wore Marion, with my Mayle boots and some great lace Givenchy tights. I came home changed into Michaela and my JC booties (and Zebra striped cardi!).
Tonight was the mix and mingle at the museum - we had a great docent and viewed the Raphael "Woman With A Veil" such a beautiful painting A Fun night.
I am so looking forward to this weekend...

Day of Sadness and Maybe Some Reckoning
Today started off great - I got a call about a job that I REALLY want to interview for (interview is tomorrow - so I may be cheating and wearing Marion AGAIN but for a short window). I was able to move a coffee meeting that I had and was on my way to meet Tracy at the newly opened Lovejoy Bakers when my mother called with some bad news.
At first I thought that my uncle had died but as it turned out my cousin Micheal was murdered yesterday. I haven't seen Micheal since he was three years old, but apparently he has had a lot of struggles with being bi-polar, drug addiction, anger issues etc. It was strange because I haven't even thought about this person in more than 25+ years (I was 8 when I last saw him). I am sad. Sad that he dies, sad that I couldn't help him and sad that I didn't really know him. But mainly I am sad for my uncle (his father) who has been battling cancer for 20 years. Micheal was his favorite and this is truly going to break his heart.
The day needed to go on - I met up with Tracy and had coffee, went home, worked out my route to the interview tomorrow. Went through my closet, returned library books and then went to meet Amy at Pearl Bakery to go over a proposal for the ball that we are working on, then to see Pirate Radio, which really brightened my afternoon. Its a great movie, a good laugh and I suggest seeing it for the stupendous cast featuring Britain's best comedians.
Today I wore Danya with purple DKNY tights (which I managed to rip in the toe AGAIN) and the JCrew tuxedo cardigan (really my new favorite sweater).

Kyoko? Day 18
Today I was trying to figure out what to wear. I immediately grabbed the Eden print (and silver) Kyoko. I put it on, but it wasn't so me, so I put on Bianca with the black JCrew tuxedo cardigan, black heels and black tights.
This morning I went to meet Thandosie for coffee to discuss Max and Mahala's upcoming birthday party. After I came home did some laundry, went for some sushi, then went downtown to pick up part of Jon's birthday gift.
At the moment I am at home enjoying some downtime before I go to clubhouse and volunteer.... and thanking the weather for NOT raining today.
That said I am considering selling Kyoko, its about a 6 - there is no size label as it was a sample. let me know if you have any interesting trades.

Sweater Love
Selling Jacinthe
Last holiday/resort I purchased Jacinthe. I have never worn it- it is a bit tight in the hips for me. It's a size 8 but would fit a 6 best. Its in the black colorway which sold out in just days. I was lucky to snag the 8!
Please let me know if you are interested.
Thanks

Repeat Day
I had a job interview today - and my favorite interview outfit is my black Marion dress, with black tights and heels. I hate repeating an outfit, but I had to wear it today. The interview went well I believe. Kathryn was awesome, picked me up this morning and we went out to Washington Square for some coffee and shopping (I got my mom a YSL fragrance gift set) and picked up some other bits and bobs for a friends new baby. After the mall, Kathryn drove me to my interview (and waited!) after we hit some furniture stores, and whole foods.
I made chili tonight for dinner, with some corn muffins... cannot wait to get back to my challenge tomorrow.

Kilts, and more Kilts........
I appreciated what my friend Teresa at "Southern Touch Catering" said when she commented on my last post stating this....
"I'll take the Kilts over the tights any day! Gotta love the Scott's & Irish!!!"
Well said Teresa.
Who cannot appreciate a great Kilt...? Now I suppose some of it depends on the wearer of such a thing. But I have seen some rather "large men" (as well as old and craggy too) in them..and still thought the Kilt itself looked lovely. It's just fabric.
But it is fabric with a meaning and a cause.
The fabric itself reflects and designates "heritage."
The colors and patterns reflect which "Clan" or family you belong to. And this doesn't pertain ONLY to the Scotts, the Irish and the Welsh wear Kilts as well.
There are many "rules" to Kilt wearing...you just don't slam one on. You need to understand what your doing, yet in some ways....I say "just have fun and wear one." Even if you can't find your correct clan or colors, etc.
Even certain "Regiments" of the various British Isle (Scotland, Ireland, Wales) Armies wear them.
Hummm....I bet Her Majesty was not "amused" but herself being Scottish..she knows how it works.
**By the way I had to GO back in and crop this photo because it SHOWED everything that was going on with that poor man!Good GRIEF! I didn't even realize it when I first worked this up until I previewed the photo afterwards.
Yikes! This is a "G" rated blog.
I bet he was embarrassed! But who knows...maybe not.
Moving onward...some Kilts are for "Dress" occasions.....like a Wedding or important occasion.
Now days there are these new "Modern" Kilts that are for even more "practical reasons"...they are called "Utility Kilts" and I suppose they are cooler than pants or shorts.
Regardless of the style or the colors, I think Kilts are just a fabulous way of showing your heritage.
And your boldness...even Prince's wear them in public.
Oh and PLEASE don't ask me that "what do they wear underneath thing."
That is a very "CHEEKY" question.
I don't even dwell on such matters.....besides.....I think we ALL know the answer to that anyway.
More Kilts from the Louisiana Renaissance Festival and some FABULOUS Bagpipers next time!!!
