St. Francis of Assisi Parish festival prize prompts complaint from PETA
“This year, a ping pong ball cup toss booth was giving away live rabbits as prizes,” Caddy said. “I was contacted by PETA right after the festival.”
Caddy said he informed Bates Amusement, Inc., the company that provides the game booths and rides for the festival, the church would no longer allow live animals to be given away as prizes.
He said even though he knows giving away the live rabbits would attract business to the booth since children love animals, he feels it was unnecessary to give away the rabbits when stuffed animals were also an option.
He said he was unaware the booth was giving away the rabbits before the festival began.
“I walked the grounds and I saw them and I thought they were cute,” he said. “It didn’t occur to me that there would be problems in doing this.”
Good forgive us! How dare you give away a pet rabbit to a child! Don't you know that rabbit has feelings too?! Well...don't you?!
If giving away pet rabbits to children is somehow mistreatment of animals, I'll be honest, I'm just not seeing it. I've owned a few rabbits before, and let me tell you, owning them is a pointless endeavor. It's basically a lump of fur that huddles in one spot the entire day. Talk about boring. If rabbits have feelings then I'd venture that hermit crabs do too. Which of course is absurd, unless, umm you are a member of PETA.
PETA is a pathetic, worthless, and absolutely idiotic organization. I understand the love and good treatment of animals, but they have gone way beyond that. They worship animals to such an extreme degree that they put them on the same level as human beings, which is a dangerous ideology.
