August Poll Results Are In

The results for the August Poll are finally in! Here's what you Hairlista Diva's voted for:

What Hair Family Are You In?

70% said: They are in the 4a,b,c family
15% said: They were not sure
10% said: They are in the 3a,b,c family
3% said: They are in the 2a,b,c family
2% said: They are in the 1 family

Majority of the Hairlista Diva's said They are in the 4 hair type family. This hair type is the most difficult to maintain and care for since it's coarse and retains less moisture than the other hair types, yet there are so many healthy long haired ladies on Hairlista! Way to Go!!

Be sure to check out the new Poll for the month of SEPTEMBER!

HOT PINK. Hot For Fall.

Oh yes and I am starting to finally feel the neon (even though I lived through it the first time....). I am thinking of buying some neon pink DKNY tights from Nordstrom to wear under my black mayle sweater dress from last fall. With Lola clogs? Fierce!

The End of Summer Is Too Soon

I can't believe that August is over. The summer flew by and yet again we didn't go on any holiday's (we were so lazy we never even went to the beach or the mountains - each an hour away) just the short jaunt to Seattle which was alot of fun but was way too short.

Yesterday I slept late, and felt miserable most of the day (as did Jon and Max). I only left the house one time to go to Whole Foods and tried to decongest myself with a hot bath (though that didn't really work - neither has the lavender which was a waste of $14). Today was supposed to be around 82, but when Max and I left to water the community garden it was fall chilly out in teh 50's. Of course Max refused to wear a jacket (which led to a fever later in the day). We met up with Tracy and Adelaide and Tracy's step-son Lukas and walked to Airplay where we met up with Fleur and Nathan. We played there for ages, then Tracey and I (kids in tow) went to Sushiland. Tracy's fiance snagged me a copy of LOVE Magazine during his quick jaunt back to NYC for work. I am forever indebted. I have a feeling it will be a LONG time before LOVE makes an appearance in PDX.

Max fell asleep on the walk home, and stayed asleep until nearly 5. He actually at one point said when we got into the house and I put him in his bed, "mommy I don't feel good I just want to sleep." It was adorable and heartbreaking at the same time.

Today's outfit? Black wool Mayle shorts from fall 2005, black gia cami, purple and black stripped kimono sweater from spring 2005 and flat gladiator sandals in a metallic purple python. I used my Billy Douce again as well - it hold everything. I sort of wish I had it in that amazing smoke gray as well.

Its sad but I have been dreaming about mayle at night. I wish I had something else to obsess over.

Night at the Rox(bury)y

Oh the horror.

Saturday night I overlooked my fear of downtown Vancouver and took the plunge into the nightlife once again. I have done it less time than fingers on my hand, so it's easy to forget to hustle and bustle of Vancouver in the wee hours of the night.

First: Parking. What a fucking nightmare. Heather and I drive by Granville Street at 1/4 to 9pm and saw NO line-up. This was a good sign. Well, WOULD have been a good sign if there was ANY parking but sadly we failed to realize ACDC was in concert that night so more than the usual amount of bodies were taking up those valuable parking lots. We finally found an out-of-the-way lot over on Davie and ??? (started with an H) that we soon discovered was a lot father away from the Roxy than we initially anticipated. Struggling in our sexy stiletto's, we finally made it to Granville street only to be faced with a pretty decent sized line-up.

Now, usually this means the bar is empty and they want to give the illusion that it's packed to passer-by's so to entice them to wait and be apart of the excitement. Not so. After about 40 minutes (and some shenanigans with a stag - more on that later) we made it in, and were greeted by a packed bar. Funny enough, I *thought* it was full, but it ended up getting busier and busier as the night wore on that the line-up for drinks was disgusting. Thank god for being female...cause skipping lines is EASY!

The line-up itself was entertaining. For those of you that know Heather... you KNOW anything can happen. God love her, she was a hit! There was a unfashionable group of 20-somethings in front of us that happened to be on a stag. They were immediately enamored with us, and spent the 40 some odd minutes trying to get us to full fill the 'grooms' checklist on his shirt. I would like to say I stepped out of my box and participated, but sadly I did not. Heather was front and center (literally) and I believe filled out a few of those check boxes quite nicely. I wont go into details... but let's just say she pleased MANY.

So from there on in, we had out' protectors'. Mind you, there were moments we might have needed protecting from some of them... but overall we were pretty safe. The poor beasts saved our table and chairs for us over and over again, bought drinks, and discouraged the slime balls from making any moves. But as the night wore on, and more drinks were consumed, these beasts tried a few unfavorable little things that we not-so-nicely shot down.

WOMAN POWER!

The night wore on at a steady pace (as did the liquor consumption) and by 1pm I was DONE. I managed to make it till 1:30 but convinced Heather I HAD to get out of there.

Now this is where it gets hazy.

I recall sitting on the curb across the street and talking on the phone while Heather ran back in to pay her tab. I recall eating (scratch that: DEVOURING) the most delicious piece of pizza in my life (do NOT, i repeat, DO NOT steal my mushroom!). I recall walking back barefoot because I couldn't take one more step in those god dam stilettos, looking down the whole way while holding Heather's arm so I didn't step on a needle (random thought to even have, but hey, I have a fear of Vancouver), and I recall crawling into the back seat of Heather's car while we waited for our DD... aaaaaand that would be about all.

Heather tells a completely different story. Apparently I am Funny As Hell.

So there you have it. My night at the Rox(bur)y.

I am so old.

Seeing Isn't Always Believing

Imagine you are at a party. You're on the tenth floor of a high-rise building. And you have to go to the bathroom.

You open the door...

Now, remember the floor is just a painted floor.

Kinda takes your breath away, doesn't it? Would this mess with your mind? Would you be able to use the facilities in this room?

Now let's take you to your place of business. Rather than make those who smoke go outside in the heat/rain/cold to smoke, your business offers them a smoker's lounge.

Kinda gets the point across, don't you think?

(Thank you, Theresa!)

Snotty on Saturday

I fell asleep last night at 10:30 and woke up today around 8ish, feeling crazy stuffed up. It was Jon's morning to sleep in, so I popped on a Toot & Puddle for Max, started the french toast making process and ran out to Cafe Umbria to get us some coffee (non-fat decaf latte for me, medium roast for Jon). I also decided that I should re-read the September issue of Lucky in case I missed some vital information, however all I found was the same vital piece of info that I culled yesterday from beauty editor Jean Godfrey June, who also apparently suffers from chronic sinus issues - boil a huge pot of water and drop in some lavender oil and inhale for a LONG time. I walked to whole foods, bought said oil (around $13) and tried it. I did feel a touch better. I am going to try it again tonight after Max goes to bed. This time however I am going to take the pot off the stove and also put a towel over my head and add in some Eucalyptus oil. I am hoping that it opens my pours at the same time!

The weather was a bit crazy today - I wore my elvira dress is brown and my red wedges with the faux python and a black cardi from gap, however the furthest we ventured was to buy a birthday gift for a friend and to Costco. Its been an incredibly lazy day and no one in this house is feeling well at all.

UPS Airlines

Just in case you need a laugh: Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only a high school diploma to fix one; reassurance to those of us who fly routinely in our jobs. After every flight, UPS pilots fill out a form, called a gripe sheet, which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by UPS pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers. By the way, UPS is the only major airline that has never, ever, had an accident.
(P: = Pilot Complaints)
(S: = Maintenance Solutions)

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.

P: Something loose in cockpit
S: Something tightened in cockpit

P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on back-order.

P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.

P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.

P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.

P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That ' s what friction locks are for.

P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.

P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you ' re right.

P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search

P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to straighen up, fly right and be serious.

P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.

P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.

And the best one for last-
P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget.

Lyell?

Has Lyell re-opened? I am dying to see the fall collection.

Hurray for Friday!

Another sad day/week. With the passing of Ted Kennedy and of DJ AM plus the break up one one of my favorite bands ever - Oasis whom I have seen like 15 times I just wonder what else can happen in 2009? It seems like this year has bee filled with sadness.. It was beautiful weather today in PDX so I wore the Vince shorts from spring 2007 (I found them at consignment for next to nothing marked down 50%) and my lotus print zenith top with the orange flats from spring 2005. The shorts are a 6, and actually fit OK. I would be happier however if they were sitting on my hips. 5-8 pounds from now they will be perfect.

Max and I went to playgroup today, watered the community garden and went to lunch with Tracy and Adelaide at Cha Cha Cha.

I also managed to finish reading the September Lucky (the only thing I got from it was a tip to inhale lavender oil to help my sinus infection) and the September Vogue which had another one of those "fairy tale" editorials starring Natalia V (who I am rather sick of) as Little Red Riding Hood. I would have rather seen Daria or Lily Cole, anyone but Natalia V.

With 6 week days and counting for Max to go to daycare full time I have gone into overdrive trying to find a job. Ideally I will find something within 6 weeks of September 8 so I can splurge a bit on fall clothes, throw Max + Jon fabulous birthday parties in December and buy Jon's family excellent holiday gifts. I am going to try to remain positive. It does seem like things may be picking up so fingers crossed!

Back to Mildred

Time to get back to my "friend" Mildred again.
"Mildred" as you remember is the name of the china dishes I inheirted from my Father's Mother. I have a fairly large collection of it so I consider myself very blessed.

Mildred was manifactured by a company called "Mount Clemmons Pottery."
Which seemed odd to me because it was china not pottery.....but so be it. Possibly it isn't china?

I found this bit of information regarding the company that made not only Mildred but many more patterns of china and other such things off of a website:

"Mount Clemens Pottery, Mount Clemens, Michigan 1915-1987 - By 1964, the company was turning out 240,000 pieces of dinnerware per day. This company was bought by SS Kresge in 1920 and made semi-porcelain dinnerware and a solid color ware which came in solid dark green, blue and pink. The ´Mildred´ dinnerware pattern so sought today was designed at Mt Clemens.
In 1965, the Kresge company sold the Mount Clemens Pottery. The new owners (Chase and Chase) operated it under the name Jamestown China Company. Ownership passed to Action Industries of Cheswick, Pennsylvania in 1983."

I am pretty sure that my Grandma Ayres' bought hers at the Kresge's store, since we had one in my home town of Hannibal Mo. which is where my Grandparents lived most all of their lives until their deaths.

As a child I remember going in there to shop with my Mother. I can still recall how the store looked inside even.

It's interesting the memories we hold inside of us even after we are older.

The memories I have from just these simple dishes is invaluable. The dishes may not even be worth much money wise.......yet they are priceless to me.

Fall Inspiration

Thursday

Today was my 2nd day to myself. I find it incredibly hard to do anything on the days that I don't have to take care of Max. The weather has been cold in the morning and then hot in the afternoon and has been wreaking havoc YET AGAIN on my sinus. I want to avoid going to the ENT if possible as he will just prescribe antibiotics which will lead to other problems (ladies I think you know what I mean).

This morning I searched for job's, started updating my resume from a chronological one to a factual one (one that's all about skills) picked out today's outfit - the avignon re-edition with my purple flats from spring 2005, and then went out, had breakfast started reading my September Vogue and ran some errands (storage and the like). I tried to work on the job search more in the afternoon, but being in the house completely stuffs me up- so I wandered downtown, bought a new US Weekly had lunch at Typhoon, and then walked over to Pioneer Place to look for the awesome crystal necklace that Bazaar showed in their September issue at Anne Taylor ($85 - some bday money burning a hole in my pocket) which they didn't have. With the loss of Mayle I have fond myself grossly obsessed with statement costume Jewelry. My friend Kathleen gave me a JCrew gift card for my birthday and I bought a fun necklace there as well. It funny everytime I look at these amazing costume pieces the sales person says "that would look great with a t-shirt." I find it hard not to laugh. Can you imagine me in a t-shirt?

After I stumbled into Kate Spade - they just got in these amazing tweed (bit not fabric) flats. I do need a new pair of fall shoes and I think that these could be the ones. They didn't have an 8.5 (and I am slightly broke at the moment after the Max shopping spree yesterday and my two meals out - and pedicure today) so I am going to wait to see if they get them in my size as they only had size 8.

My friend Nancy called while I was wandering and invited me to meet her for a drink at Bluehour, so I stopped by (she and her husband were sitting outside working) so we chatted for an hour - then I went to Aveda and got my pedicure. I am back in the house, the AC is blasting and my nose is stuffed up again.

Channel 52, I love you

I was planning on updating this here blog with some positive today, then I went and did something completely fucking retarded.

I stayed up to watch the finale of "The Next Food Network Star" last night and so I am tired as fuck and in no mood whatsoever to blow sunshine up any one's ass.

I actually feel like there are toothpicks holding my eyes open.

Now tell me, who the hell puts a finale on at 11pm??? Fucking Food Network. I curse you. (Cause we all know this is in no way my fault...AT ALL) My addiction to channel 52 is killing me.

My theory on it, is if I can lose 20lbs (Yipeeee, just hit that milestone!) while watching celebrity chefs cook up the most amazing food EVER, then I must be pretty tough right? OK, so I might drool, and get a few stomach pains when Bobby Flay whips up an amazing BBQ feast on "Throwdown", or when Makashari Mirimoto (sp?) concocts some amazing Japanese dish on "Iron Chef", or even when Gordon Ramsay directs his "Hell's Kitchen" competitors to create a signature dish... I am still not running down to my kitchen to stuff my face with BBQ chips.

(Not sure why, I just can't stop craving those bad boys!)

Every time I turn on the TV, I don't even bother with the TV Listings on Channel 2. My first stop is Channel 52, the Food Network. 9 times out of 10 there is a show on that I like, no matter what time of day. Jamie Oliver, 'The Wild Gourmet'... those I can do without (seriously, does anyone watch those)...and the 'At home with the Freely's' (is that what it's even called) annoys me so much I immediately change the channel (the wife should be de-barked. Her voice KILLS ME), but there are so many others I would choose over my usual fave's that again, 9 times out of 10 I leave it on the Food Network.

'Hell's Kitchen' has to be one of my favorites. Gordon Ramsay is a douche bag and I can't stop loving him. I get embarrassed for the chefs, but who doesn't like a young punk kid being told to shut the fuck 7 times in a row? Even better 'you're a fucking donkey'? Ah, makes me giggle just thinking about it.

But I shall repeat... I am TIRED AS FUCK TODAY.

You're lucky you even got a blog post.

From My Kindergarten Dictionary

School has started, and already my new class is giving me a reason to believe it's going to be a great year!

Almost The End of August

In just two short weeks my baby will be in daycare/pre-school full time. I am sad we wont be together all day. Baby is growing up! Today for the first time, I rode the Max train to Llyod Center. There are two things that are now dangerous about the Max train:

1. I now know that in 5 minutes (essentially the time it took to go from 7th ave + 12 Street) I can get to Lloyd Center and shop Gap Body, and a wholeplethora of other random shops (plus Old Navy for Max)

2. The stop RIGHT BEFORE the mall is literally 30 feet from Burgerville. I adore Burgerville.

Oh and did I mention that its a "fareless square" for me to get there?

I bought Max three t-shirts and a jacket at Old Navy (Run DMC, Spiderman and Rolling Stones)

After I went to meet Amy for lunch at Cafe Nell (the Crab Louie salad is divine). Then I wandered around 23rd and then made it home to rest as all my sinus issues are back.

With two weeks and counting with Max during the day I am really amped up to find a job. My one bright light is waiting for the Sakura to arrive!

What Does One TRILLION Dollars Look Like?

All this talk about "stimulus packages" and "bailouts".. .
A billion dollars...
A hundred billion dollars... Eight hundred billion dollars...
One TRILLION dollars...
What does that look like?

We'll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation. Most everyone has seen them, slighty fewer have owned them. Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2" thick and contains $10,000. Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for week or two of shamefully decadent fun.

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet.

And $1 BILLION dollars... now we're really getting somewhere...

Next we'll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we've been hearing so much about. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it's a million million. It's a thousand billion. It's a one followed by 12 zeros.
You ready for this?
It's pretty surprising.
Go ahead...
Scroll down...
Ladies and gentlemen... I give you $1 trillion dollars...

(And notice those pallets are double stacked.)
See the little man on the bottom left-hand corner where he feels lost and powerless?
So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase "trillion dollars"... that's what they're talking about.

**Thank you, Mark and Alan!**

Today is my Birthday!!

After days on end of celebrating (my birthday IS my favorite holiday), today is actually my birthday. The weather outside is not great - rainy this morning and cold. I am wearing my blue Dalmatia mikinto dress with black Alexander McQueen for target leggings and the black kimono style cardigan from spring 2005 (and ballet flats).

Some good news arrived - that Max got into the highly competitive daycare where Jon works and starts September 8, which finally leaves me open to find a full-time job without the extra stress of what to do with Max. I fired off six resumes this morning and am about to fax and mail) another. I am hoping that with 5 days a week to purely focus I wont end up slogging make up at Nordstrom (or worse - the Macy's downtown).

Also a great surprise was my friend who managed to snag that Sakura dress for me on ebay yesterday while I was out with Max. It has made me so unbelievably happy, to have a covet item (and scratch something off my list for a low $150).

I just took Max for a sushi lunch and then we are headed to JCrew (another friend sent me an e-gift card that I printed out when I was just at Kinkos).

So far its been a great day, even if the weather isn't amazing...

Oh yeah, did anyone else watch Rachel Zoe last night? That show, I hate watching it yet I can't stop!

Orange Beach, Alabama

Ahhh......the beach was grand.
The low volume of people and great weather made for a wonderful, "wining" combination this weekend for me and my two friends.

This is the view from my friend Ann's condo....

We would go to the beach every day but once we had enough of the sand and intense sun...we would go here.
Which is where we pretty much spent the remainder of our days.

At night we would hit the local seafood restaurants.
Saturday night we ate here which was VERY good...even though it wasn't "Louisiana food" HA!
After we ate we went to go see "Julie and Julia"
Which was an interesting movie loosely based on Julia Child and a young woman who endeavors to cook every single recipe in her cookbook within one years time.

There are some "issues" within the movie...such as the "F" bomb. So I don't recommend this movie to everyone.
I rarely go to movies not that I am against them......I just don't like being surprised during them and I don't like paying $9.00 for them either....which is what we paid to see this.
Absurd.

Once leaving Orange Beach late that Sunday afternoon, my friend Ann and I stopped at the really BIG Outlet Mall they have in Foley, AL. and I spent my money at the "Christian Bookstore"....so now I have a ton of reading to do. HA!

AS IF I HAVE TIME!

We are now at the "SIX week marker for the Wedding of Miss Priss and Mr. Joshua."
Ugh.....

That is why I took this opportunity to go with my friends on this short trip.
And I once again I concluded this thought:
"It is always SO good to get away........and it's always so good to come home!"

If there was any doubt...

YANG TERINDAH

Cinta…..

Apalah arti sebuah cinta??

Semua orang pasti membutuhkan cinta..tanpa cinta kita semua terasa hampa…kosong….

apalah arti sebuah cinta?

Kau begitu sempurna

diantara yang lainnya;

kau pancarkan

aroma yang menyejukkan jiwa..

semua terasa indah,

saat kita bersama..

melalu semua cerita cinta kita

bersambung..

YANG TERINDAH

Betapa ku mengagumimu

Kau wanita yang terindah

Yang membuatku merindukanmu

Hanya kau yang ku inginkan

Oh..manisnya dirimu

Saat ku tatap wajahmu

Ingin ku ungkapkan isi hatiku

Yang ku simpan dari dulu

Reff

Ku ingin diriku mencintai dirimu

Agar aku bisa menyayangimu

Biarlah semua kan menjadi indah

Saat kita berdua menjalin cinta

Betapa ku mengagumimu

Kau wanita yang terindah

Ingin ku ungkapkan isi hatiku
