What a week...
1. We bought a house
2. I am going to Dallas for work in June
3. Did I mention the house?
yup, its official, our offer was accepted and we are moving to....gulp.... MISSION. Honestly, it sounds far, but it really isn't. We timed it. 15 min to East Maple Ridge, 30 to the bridge. Do-able to save 100k, no?
The house was built in 1992, 3000 sq ft, on a nice landscaped lot. Asking $385, we got it for $358. Why such a great deal, you ask? because the place was TRASHED. There is about 2 inches of FILTH in the house. The owner has no interest in cleaning it to make 20k, and we have no interest in paying more :) It will take us a bit to clear out some stuff , but in the end we will probably make over $75k in equity over the summer. I like that number ! SO the short story about this place is that the owner had to kick out his wife and her boyfriend who were trying to build a grow-op in the basement (good news for us actually because it makes the basement a 2 bedroom instead of one!) They were not excited about the news, so they moved out in a day, taking the appliances with them and leaving all their crap. Including a broken fridge in the garage, and a really crappy couch in the basement. One of them fancied themselves an artist too; there is a half-drawn Canucks logo on the living room wall in the basement. Tres Magnifique ;)
And here it is.....
Despite the problems, its actually a very wonderful place. We are so excited to get in there and clean it out, rip up carpet, paint, and BUILD. We are going to put in a kitchen in the basement so we can rent it quite quickly.
So .. whose up for a BBQ, dump, clean-up, paint party???
I kid.
only kind of though.
The first weekend after we take possession (immediately after the inspection, so could be as early as next week!) we are taking the BBQ, hot dogs, hamburgers, coolers (since there is no fridge) of beer, and inviting everyone we know to come hang out, and clear out all their SHIT. Then we are hiring Molly Maid to do the major cleanup. Then, we are gong in there.. .FULL FORCE! We have til May 31st to get it livable to my standards....and you all know how tough that is!
As a side note: Anyone have some newerish appliance they want to sell? Teehee
