Hola Cuba! Delta Airlines Begins Charter Flights to Havana

Atlanta airport officials say regular chartered flights to Cuba are beginning Wednesday from the world's busiest airport.

Authorities say the flights by Marazul Charters, operated by Delta Air Lines, are nonstop from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to Havana.

In March, federal officials announced that eight airports including Atlanta, Chicago's O'Hare and Dallas/Fort Worth had gained federal approval to schedule charter flights to and from Cuba.

Officials said the flights would be new gateways for Cuban Americans to visit relatives in the communist island nation and for other limited travel.

Not all types of travel are allowed. Atlanta airport officials say only "purposeful" travel will be permitted, such as passengers who have close relatives in Cuba, are involved in the medical or agricultural sectors, or travel for educational and religious activities.
